Our Story

Material Honesty, Hand-Built

Akwere crafts architectural objects from hand-turned stoneware and regional timber. We honor the material, the process, and the quiet permanence of well-made things.

The Process

From Clay to Kiln

Each Akwere vessel begins as raw clay, shaped by hand on the potter's wheel. This intimate connection to the material allows us to feel the subtle shifts in form, ensuring every piece carries a unique, tactile permanence.

After shaping, pieces undergo slow drying, followed by high-temperature firings in our studio kiln. This meticulous process transforms the raw earth into resilient stoneware, ready for daily ritual.

Our Guiding Principles

Zero Synthetics, Material First

We commit to material honesty, sourcing regional timber from sustainably thinned trees and finishing all pieces with natural plant oils and beeswax. No shortcuts, no compromises.

Common Questions

Caring for Your Akwere Piece

Understanding the unique properties of natural materials ensures your Akwere objects age gracefully, developing a rich patina over time.

Living Finishes

Lead Times

Timber Care

Our natural oil and wax finishes allow timber to breathe and develop character. Reapply natural oil every 6-12 months for lasting protection.

As each piece is hand-crafted and fired in small batches, lead times vary. Most stoneware ships within 4-6 weeks; timber furniture within 8-12 weeks.

Avoid harsh chemical cleaners. Wipe timber surfaces with a damp cloth and mild soap. Protect from direct sunlight and extreme humidity to prevent warping.
